30-Day Experiment: Week 1

Week One Complete

Well, we’ve come to the end of the first week of my experiment and so far this is how it’s been going:

Step 1: Make Food
Step 2: Photograph Food
Step 3: Exercise
Step 4: Feel Good
Step 5: Repeat Steps 1 through 3 the jump to Step 6
Step 6: Feel Like Crap
Step 7: Bitch About It
Step 8: Exercise
Step 9: Go Back to Step One and Repeat process

In this first week I’ve ran a little over 18 miles, walked well over 2 miles and biked about 25. I’ve gotten a sore nipple, two nasty blisters, some tan lines, new socks and a new running shirt.

All in all a good week.

This is SO GOOD!!!

I’ve made some nice discoveries too. I found Veganaise and love it. I’ve never had Almond Milk either and I now use it nearly everyday. I also discovered Dark Chocolate Almond Milk (thank you Megan Wilson!) and Holy Shit Dark Chocolate Almond Milk is AWESOME!! Chia seeds and Avocado are now a staple in my daily life and if I don’t have balanced meals or enough water through the day, I can feel it, but I can also correct it to get balanced!

Other thoughts:
This is also the first time I’ve been drink free for a straight week in a year or two or maybe even three. Yeah, that’s kind of depressing. The last time I stopped drinking for a significant period of time was in 2008. Four months of that year I was mind-numbingly sober. I wasn’t exercising however, so I really didn’t have any positive replacements for the drinking. When I fell off the wagon and started drinking again, I think my pant leg got caught on the bumper and I got dragged for several miles before I was well back into my drinking ways. Fast forward 4 DAMN YEARS (has it really been that long?) and this is the first time I’ve gone without drinking for more than a day or two.

This time, however, I have replaced a habit of drinking with reading, exercising and making good healthy food. I feel good. Really good overall. I’m hoping that the combination of good homemade food, exercise and no drinking will help me lose some weight (and save a SHIT-TON of money!).

Here’s to a better and more productive Week Two!
